meet heidi

heidi has always been the entertainer of her friends and family, and is what you’d call a natural planner. yet, it never occurred to her to make planning events a profession. in college, she majored in advertising then spent five years as an up and coming account executive before going full time in wedding planning. her experiences as ad account exec were quite similar to her role as a wedding planner: from managing projects, deadlines and budgets to working closely with outside vendors and, of course, coordinating events and deliverables. she applies a lot of advertising skills to the wedding world, especially utilizing an established creative process and developing a wedding brand for each of our couples.

name: heidi baumgart
twitter: @heidzillas
status: married to a restaurant manager
siblings: only child but many sister-friends and brothers-from-another-mother
college & major: kent state, advertising & marketing
personal theme song: boom boom pow, black eyed peas
one word they’ll put on your tombstone: organized
from an early age: heidi vividly remembers making timelines for her day as soon as she could write (age 4 or 5?), although she didn’t quite understand time just yet and would write 13 o’clock, 14 o’clock etc.

season started with hdz: um. i am hdz.
favorite part of weddings: because of her graphic design / advertising background, she adores cohesive stationery at weddings. programs, place cards, table numbers, menus and more!
favorite part of the wedding day: dropping the bride’s train and sending her down the aisle!
best moment while working an hdz wedding: a bride who was excited but not a crier started sobbing when she saw the final reception set up. her knees buckled and all. it was this awesome moment after working with her on it for several months.
funniest thing seen at a wedding: a best man writing his speech on a napkin while in line for the reception introductions. tied with a groomsman asking siri “should *** get married?” he was kidding.
toughest moment at hdz: having a day with a bride who really hated one of her vendors.
must have beauty tool/makeup: smashbox face primer
must get photo: the shot of the bride and groom sitting in the ceremony chairs when the guests are gone.
favorite song to get the crowd dancing: september by earth, wind and fire
favorite cake flavor + filling: white cake + bavarian cream. even great frozen one year later!
favorite favor: mini champagne splits – guests can celebrate after the wedding.
can’t forget detail: seats and meals for your vendors
don’t fret over it detail: guests who demand to be seated by so and so. or not by so and so
