heidzillas how to: playing card signs part 2

the second half of the playing card signs were based on menu planning and naming which will be featured in the next blog post. but first, the second half of making the actual signs.

part 1 of 2: playing card signs
part 2 of 2: creating the menu cards

i needed to make 16 menu cards. i utilized a business card template inside of microsoft word and typed in the fun food names and descriptions. i also found the diamond, club, heart and spade graphics via the “insert symbols” function inside of word. i printed them using my color laser printer on watercolor paper to create a sort of weathered texture.  the 8.5 x 11″ paper was cut down to about 2″ x 1.5″ cards.

Menu Plan

i cut black paper about 2 1/4″ x 1 3/4″ to matte the white menu signs for depth on the cards. i used a glue stick to affix the two sheets of paper together.

Menu plus Mattes

finally, i attached the menu cards to the playing card signs using glue dots. i personally prefer the zots brand glue dots. see the neat texture the watercolor paper makes? it complemented the glossy flat playing card texture nicely.

A Finished Food Label

i “followed suit” and matched the menu card suits with the actual card sign suits: hearts

Hearts

spades

Spades

diamonds

Diamonds

and clubs!

Clubs

all 16 playing card signs. super simple, but oh-so-cute!
