a tradition stemming from great depression that i’m still seeing at the weddings i’ve worked recently – six this year – are cookie tables. the ones i’ve counted this year are cookies made by friends and family of the brides and grooms, not ones provided by the caterers as part of reception packages. i have to say that my couples of italian descent and/or with families from the pittsburgh and youngstown areas almost always make sure they have some sort of “cookie table”. here’s a great article from the new york times about the tradition that coincidentally published yesterday!
