dear heidzilla… what anti-perspirant?

as a day of coordinator and wedding consultant, i’m sure it’s no surprise that i get some random questions from my brides and grooms to be at times. most of which have nothing to do with my services but i’m happy to try to use my experience to answer.

i got this question last night from an out of state bride to be/friend:

Hi Heidi!

Do you have a recommendation for a body spray/deoderant/anti-perspirant that will help with the buckets of sweat under a heavy wedding dress?  I sweat to death in an air conditioned room when I tried on my new dress the other day (which is really gross to think about sample dresses at a store!).

My wedding will be on a big party boat/yacht, so it will be partial indoor/partially outdoor.  I’m sure no matter what I do, I’m going to sweat like crazy.  I really don’t want to stink when we get to the fun part of the wedding night, so I need something that is going to work, and I don’t want to rub my Secret solid all over my body (but I will if I have to!).

Do you know of any proven methods?

Thanks!

H

while i did respond with my personal suggestions, i thought i’d put it out there to see if my readers had any suggestions for this bride to be? please comment below if you have ideas for “h”

Jaci Clark - I would suggest a clinical protection antiperspirant. Dove carries one as does Degree. They offer 24 hour protection and work really well. You can get either at a local drugstore.

Angela Wish - Talk with your doctor about Drysol. Its prescription strength deoderant that can also be used on sweaty palms/feet so I guess it could be rubbed in other locations as well ;) ! It can be combined with normal deoderant for the fragrance since Drysol has no smell! HTH!July 30, 2009 – 9:26 am

Corey Ann - CERTAIN DRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! BEST THING IN LIFE!! Seriously, I hate to say it but I’m a sweater and it has always been an embarrassing moment when I realize that my nice shirt has pit stains, ICK! When I was getting married (on the beach… in August… in North Carolina) that was one of my biggest concerns. At the time on the local Knot board, someone recommend it and I figured why NOT and holy cow, it has been a life changer for me! It’s easily found in most drug stores (although some don’t have it). You apply it once every three days or so and you do not sweat. At all. I also use the ‘refresher’ stick in the AM because I like to be ‘sure’ ha ha ha. Seriously. LIFE CHANGING!July 30, 2009 – 9:53 am

Averel M - I would recommend the Degree clinical strength as well. Apply it in the morning before you put on your dress and let it dry. It won’t help you with all over body sweats but it will keep your underarms dry. What is best is keeping up on your nutrition. Sugar makes you sweat! Alcohol, also full of sugars, will make you sweat as well. Limit your intake of sugars, and carbs leading up the the wedding. Remember to eat your cake on your wedding day but skip the Coke and jack. Get lots of water and take a break from dancing (This one stinks, I love to dance myself) but cool down a little. Good luck!!!July 30, 2009 – 2:48 pm

Shannon - secret clinical- but she should use it a few days before- not just the day of the wedding so her body gets used to it.July 31, 2009 – 8:34 am
