amy & jeremy – part 3: the wedding touches africa

i hinted back in may that there were numerous reasons i was so very excited to help amy and jeremy on their wedding day. from the unique venue with the mason jar walkway and sparkler send off to the added home touches and wonderful vendor-coworkers. but another reason this wedding touched my heart so was amy’s mission.

with her church, amy traveled to africa on a mission trip in november 2008. the experience and the people whose lives she was able to help has definitely stuck with her. they were in the back of her head as she and jeremy wrote the numerous checks to wedding vendors. as she spent thousands of dollars on catering, rentals, attire, photography, etc. she thought about how much THAT money could also help the people she met in africa.

the two decided to ask their vendors – already hired, not a part of our contracts in any way – if we’d be interested in donating a portion (big or small) of the proceeds we made on their wedding to their church’s african mission fund.  of course, my assistant elissa and i both agreed we’d be happy to serve amy and jeremy on their wedding day as well as help them to continue to their mission.

at the wedding throughout the tudor house, amy had tent cards with information about her trips and the people she met in africa. some had photo captions, other were health and well being facts such as the distances the african people she helped had to travel to get clean water, etc.

inside their wedding program was also this information:

Living His Word

Mozambique is a country on the Southeastern coast of Africa along the Indian Ocean. This desperately poor country is plagued with sickness and hunger resulting from years of civil war, droughts, flooding and HIV AIDS. Having had the privilege of teaching Bible and health lessons in two villages in the Chibuto district this past November has put a fire in our hearts for the children there. As a new family, our desire is for the Lord to use this burden in the coming years to help these beautiful, strong people. Thank you to all those partnering with us in supporting the children of Africa.

amy and jeremy’s vendors who are donating to the africa mission in addition to elissa and me include:

catherine mckinley

focus on you video & design (bob and krista newill)
john bahas’ waterloo catering
