get your guests to share

while you absolutely CANNOT count on your guests’ digital photos to replace your professional wedding photographer’s photos, in this day and age you KNOW your guests are going to get some great candid shots. wedding websites with photo hosting site log-in information have replaced the disposable cameras on each table. (and wow are you saving money: guests digital pictures + free photo hosting sites save you hundreds compared to using disposable camera cost + developing film and getting prints – all the prints that are blank or toss-able in general. and think of all that WASTE!)

so the only trouble is… getting all of your guests to remember to share their photos with you. while many will post your wedding photos on their facebook profiles, the photos upload at lower resolution and you cannot pull them off and print them easily.

so first things first: you have to start some sort of album where your guests can share their high-resolution photos. for my own wedding, i used photobucket.com. now that i’m a little more familiar with flickr, however, i would actually suggest setting up your online albums there. here’s flickr’s suggestions on how to get the most out of your online album. (thanks for the information, christina!)

now the hard part:  hoping you guests will remember to upload their photos… you could disseminate the traditional business card or postcard sized sheets with log in information (as shown on dc nearlyweds blog.) but your guests could easily lose the information somewhere between your wedding reception and their computers where they’ve uploaded their photos…

oooooooor you could get these really cool stickers (as seen on “from i will to i do” blog) that can be at each placesetting, near the favors, with the escort cards, or even on the bar so guests can STICK the information to their cell phones or digital cameras immediately!

the stik-its adhere to electronics but can easily be removed with no goo left behind. the custom designs can have an email address for your guests to send their photos to, or, you could see if the site will customize the instructions so you can include your photo hosting site URL and uploading information. there are several designs to choose from, or you can send in your own design (got a monogram? voila!)

stik-its are definitely more expensive than printing out 3″ x 5″ sheets… 40 stik-its: $39.70, 80 stik-its: $65.40, 120 stik-its: $88.25… but i bet you’ll get a better response from your guests who will be reminded by the sticker every time they pick up their cell or digital camera.

wish i would have found this months ago! if you get them, let me know how they turn out:)
