i’m currently assisting one of my heidzilla brides-to-be, jillian with planning her big day, in addition to my usual day of coordination services. since we first met in november, there was one thing i knew jillian wanted lots of: PINK! and one thing jillian doesn’t want: HEARTS. funny, because you often think those things go hand in hand, but pink can definitely be bridal sans hearts. oh and did i mention jillian’s got great taste (just WAIT until you see the cake. seriously.) she has selected the oh-so-popular-and-getting-more-popular black and white damask with magenta color scheme for her wedding (at springvale ballroom.)
first up in a series of damask + pink diy projects: jazzing up jillian’s invitations.
i found these great, SUPER affordable black and white damask invitations from alaun by design. (abd was super great to work with by the way.) while jillian loved the black and white damask combo, it was only half of her color scheme – so we had to figure out how to incorporate a little pink. insert less than $6 worth of ribbon. pat catans, $1.97 for 10 yards, 6″ per invitation, 6 invitations per yard. 30 yards for less than 175 invitations.

real quick – here’s the “how to” with some helpful hints:
disclaimer: yes this is easy. does it warrant a whole blog post? probably not. but i haven’t seen a tutorial myself (of the dozens… scores?… hundreds? of wedding-related blogs that i read) and i know some people are diy-challenged out there and i’m here for you :)
moving on- so first, i punched two 1/8th inch holes. for the first invitation, i measured the same distance from each side of the invitations, and saw where the holes lined up above the text. after that, i eyeballed it. oh and don’t forget to sort of double punch your holes. they should sort of looks like “8″s to allow enough room for your ribbon.
then feed one corner of your 6″ (3/8th) ribbon thru the back:

then from the front to the back:

hold the right side down and loop the left side back into the right’s hole:

and vice versa put the right side ribbon in the left side’s hole:

fix fix fix
flip it back over, and tighten the ribbon – gently don’t rip your invite, huh? oh and make sure the center is all cute and round and such:
and the trim the frayed satin ribbon at and angle so it looks a little like this:

(that’s why you use 6″ of ribbon and not… like 4″ which is what was probably left here. i didn’t pull one out again to check :).
voila. an easy and simple way to jazz up your invites. and look how cute they match with her ceremony exit bells. (yes, coincidentally, jillian wanted to do bells like my bff codi does!)

more pink and satin ribbon fun to come!
