a daisy-themed bridal shower

today was my bff codi’s, bridal shower, hosted by the 3 other bridesmaids, man of honor, moms and me. it was held at codi & joe’s church, church of ascension in lakewood. the church had a large kitchen downstairs, a small kitchen for easy preparation and provided the tables, chairs and white linens. (it is available for rent, contact me if you’re interested).

we had the food was catered by stancato’s. i still can’t believe how much food you get and how good the food is, considering the price ($5.50/person!)  we had salad, breadsticks, rigatonis, chicken and mixed vegetables. for a little variation on the bridal shower cake tradition, we got cupcakes from the lakewood giant eagle. they didn’t turn out like we had hoped (long story) but the guests didn’t know the difference, and they were rather yummy.

i had seen this hand-crafted shower blog post from modern romance last month which gave us some signage inspiration. with the help of pat catan’s, i was able to develop all of the decorations for less than $50. i got 6 chalkboards for various signage – “lemonade”, “punch”, “coffee”, filling out envelopes, “cards & gifts”, and “codi & joe 5.16.09″.

the centerpieces were made of simple mason jars with yellow with white polka dot ribbon and live bulk daisies.

CodisShower01

i plucked the daisy tops off of $2/stem silk daisies – 14 blooms each and we scattered a few on each table and around the drink and food tables.

CodisShower03

the favors were small plantable daisies from american bridal. they came with little envelopes that i stamped with daisies and “thank you.”

i jazzed up a pack of cocktail and a pack of dinner napkins with daisy stamps borrowed from one of the bridesmaids.

we decided to set the table so the guests would have less to carry from the buffet table and so there was more of a pop of color. voila!

i already had an infusion jar, which was filled with country time lemonade, ice and thin lemon slices (it feels so martha, doesn’t it?)

CodisShower22

we also made tradition sherbet punch (1 – 2 liter of hawaiian punch, scoop in rainbow sherbet, top with 7 up for the fizzies)…

CodisShower21

…and had coffee.

guests enjoying food and each other’s company.

CodisShower29

we bought plenty of thank you cards for codi to use post-shower and put the envelopes out so the guests could fill in their own envelopes.

CodisShower16

this table greeted guests when they walked in.

CodisShower17

for the gift table, i got one yellow accent tablecloth and a apple bushel basket for loose cards.

CodisShower15

here’s codi surrounded by her wares from macy’s and bed bath & beyond :)

CodisShower31

and… don’t forget the bow plate! cut a 1″ hole in a paper plate and have your maid of honor place your bows through just enough so they stick out on the bottom to make stems. the rest stick out on top to make a bouquet – use it for your rehearsal ceremony!

hope you enjoyed our shower in honor of codi! i leave you with – bridal party with the bride:

It's A Jaime Thing - It looks sooo beautiful, you did an amazing job!!! Love all the personal touches you added, and the stamps on the napkins – fab idea, lady! ;)

I’ve got my little sister’s upcoming bridal shower this coming weekend, can’t wait to post pics…it’s a gerbera daisy theme, pink & orange – with lots of sweets. I’m nervous, but excited – hopefully I’ve got everything…though knowing me I’m sure there’s something I’ll end up forgetting! ;)

Anyhow, congrats to you on the fab shower decor, and of course to your friend getting married. Cheers!

Sincerely,
JaimeMarch 23, 2009 – 11:01 pm
