heidzilla helps: consider light!

lighting effects at reception venues can dramatically change the overall look of decor and the feel of your reception. think about how much your reception decor can be enhanced with a just few spot lights uplighting the walls, a gobo with your monogram and wedding date on the dance floors or lit floral centerpieces and other floral arrangements!

some brides (me included, just a few months ago!) think lighting is not affordable through specialized av and lighting companies. honestly, it may not be in your budget to add another vendor. however, i’m finding out that more and more non-av/lighting vendors are offering it.

have you checked with your dj or florist to see if they offer lighting effects? they may have uplights and gobos available, and didn’t think you were interested while you were negotiating for your music services or bouquets. these types of services can be as affordable as $20-$30 per uplight! and, if you do just one focus wall with as few as 4 or 5 uplights, that’s adding major focal drama to your room for as little as $100.

my wedding florist, blooms by plantscaping, offers spot lights for uplighting effects as well as lit centerpieces. i had lights for my centerpieces, and once the lights were dimmed after dinner, they made the tables come aglow!

ask your dj, florist or reception venue about their lighting options and let me know how it turns out!

Ari&Matt08 - Our uplights actually only cost $10 per can! Our gobo was $250. :)January 2, 2009 – 8:37 am

heidzilla - Jay R sent me some more information after I posted about uplighting. More food for thought! :)

We use all L.E.D. uplighting and can customize ANY color to match what they want and being that we us LED fixtures their is no heat and barely and power consumption. This is the new technology that is only a few years old in our industry, however you have to make sure your venue will allow use of this from outside vendors as this is something that they are starting to upsell as well and may not allow and outside vendor to do this.

Also, the LED fixtures are slightly more expensive than the higher heat/more power consumption units that are cheaper to set up. Standard pricing for uplighting for LED fixtures is approx 40.00 per fixture, but the more you use the lower the price.

Also a side note, the older fixtures take immense power and some hotels or venues cannot run more than 5 on one circuit, proving some limitations.

So to summarize, there is a big difference in the older fixtures vs. the newer fixtures. The newer ones can be computer controlled to change colors through the evening if set up correctly.

Thanks again Jay R!December 29, 2008 – 9:47 pm
