what is day of coordinating?

so… what’s a day of coordinator?

a few months ago, i was at archivers (a great scrapbooking supply chain store) and was chatting with the sales associate about her recent engagement. amidst our conversation, i mentioned that i loved wedding planning so much that i now “day-of-coordinate.” she wasn’t sure what that was. and, actually, it can be many things.

i’ve had the opportunity to talk to brides-to-be about a variety of services. some need a “DOC” just for the ceremony. some want help during their reception… and some want both. most times, if they want a ceremony DOC, they also like me to attend their rehearsal.

so what do i do as a DOC for rehearsals, ceremonies, receptions? well, what do you need me to do?

for my wedding, i had planned everything, scheduled all times with our vendors and developed a timeline for our families and bridal party. my DOC was able to be sure our vendors arrived on time, implemented our timeline, gave our bridal party cues to walk during the processional music, and really was just there when we needed her.

Where’s my dad? Did the string quartet show up? Are the groomsmen sober?

for our reception, i asked my DOC to be sure the reception coordinator had set up our guest book, photo frames, gift table, etc. the way I had planned, to double check that the centerpieces and tables were in order, and so on. when the bridal party arrived, she arranged the bridesmaids bouquets on the head table, lined us up before announcements and was at beck and call for any errands we needed her to do.

the point being, everyone’s wedding is different. i can help as much or as little as you need me. many brides i talk to are avid “knotties” and “diy-ers” and plan everything themselves. but, on their big day, they need a runner, plan implementer and general helper so they can enjoy being a bride and not have to worry about a thing!
